S-ko's line is a reference to "2001: a space odyssey" (or "2010"?)... I remember the first time I drew the Bobble design. We were on holiday at the coast, and I was making a drawing of the deck of a ferry ship. It turned out to be a boring drawing so I started adding these alien invader creatures that were blasting random parts of the scenery with ray pistols. These were the Bobble prototype. I liked the idea, so I made more drawings in the same vein, with Bobbles destroying classrooms or other places that I felt would be improved by destruction. So the original Bobbles were alien invaders. I had almost forgotten about that. I think that's funny, but then I am easily amused.
